Why should you entrust me with your
visibility and credibility?

NarraTricks Founder Vijay Shankar Balakrishnan

Because I've been where you are—navigating spaces that weren't built to recognise what you bring.
I'm Vijay Shankar Balakrishnan (call me Vijay).I founded NarraTricks because I got fed up with watching brilliant leaders and science founders from underrepresented backgrounds have their stories told by people who fundamentally don't understand their origins and work of building credibility when the system wasn't designed to value the misunderstood ones.My path here wasn't linear. My journey towards NarraTricks began as a researcher for 5 years, including a 3-year PhD in interdisciplinary nanoscience.I genuinely loved the projects I worked on in science labs, but I had the nagging feeling that I was missing something. The "Eureka!" Moment came while writing my thesis. I rediscovered what I was actually good at: translating complex ideas into stories people could relate with.Looking back, it all made sense. During my undergrad days, I was writing stories, organising events, and doing TV interviews when science needed a voice, where I grew up.But I didn't want to abandon science entirely. So I bridged the two, carving out space in science journalism and communications.Over the last 13 years, I've built credibility across the ecosystem.I've written for publications including Nature Biotechnology, The Lancet Group, New Scientist, South China Morning Post, and Deutsche Welle.I've worked with organisations like the World Health Organization and spent time working in corporate communications at Boehringer Ingelheim.I've trained hundreds of researchers across institutions like the Technical University of Dresden, Germany and the Max Planck Society, Germany, to help transform their knowledge and backstories into narratives that actually land. Here's what I learned as a journalist most communications agencies to miss:Their challenge isn't teaching diverse founders to tell better stories. The challenge is understanding how they perceive diverse founders.Add to that their insufficient attention to how credibility gets constructed and recognised in ecosystems that operate on assumptions about who belongs and who doesn't, or how they could be represented. This is similar to someone building something for blind people without being blind or understanding what it is to be blind. As someone who's neurodivergent, queer, and a person of colour, I know what it feels like. And what it costs, when people construct a narrative about you, your being, your doing (work), and not allowing you to clarify yours, or worse, assume using their own biased references and jump into a conclusion or tell their version of your story. They'd be too intense in their "helping" us that we give in (ADHD-er here!). Probably some of them genuinely try to help, but it's not how you've wanted it, and by expressing it, you get called out for being fierce. So, yes, I understand the statistically impossible gaps (or choices) between access and authenticity.I've navigated the spaces where your expertise gets questioned not because of what you know, but because of how people read your background before you even speak. That's why I developed proprietary frameworks to reassure myself and, through that, support founders like me.No, these are not just another set of acronyms you look at and throw away. It's a systematic approach to helping founders articulate who they are and what they stand for.You can use them to build your visibility and reputation with equity, with a sense of belonging. You can reuse them many times and get the desired results. All without performing for gatekeepers or getting trapped in the sanitised narratives that venture capital and media often project onto underrepresented founders—consciously or unconsciously.Through my newsletter Narratives Uncensored, I call out what others won't. I don't stop there. I also discuss solutions built upon my experience and research. That's why NarraTricks is for the Zebras among the Unicorns. That's why NarraTricks is a for-profit with a cause. My newsletter and podcast address the storytelling opportunities that help brilliant founders become justly visible to the people who matter. No diversity porn or no resilience theatre. Just strategic conversations about the actual infrastructure that's missing when ecosystems claim to support diverse voices, and the emerging opportunities to take advantage of.Because... I know what it's like when your story gets told by someone else...When bias, conscious or unconscious, shapes how your expertise gets interpreted...When tokenisation masquerades as opportunity....When your lived experience gets flattened into convenient narratives that serve everyone except you. That's why I'm building something different.NarraTricks does not offer emergency plaster-like remedies that force you to fit into existing narratives. We give you what is tested and helps you construct credibility and visibility on terms that don't require you to seek permission, perform authenticity or sacrifice substance for access.I want to help you own your story before someone else defines it.
